True North

“Do not be shaped by the opinions of man, but be shaped by your value for His Presence.”

Bill Johnson

True North is the fixed point which orients us when life is spinning out of control. It’s our internal compass that allows us to stay on track to God’s call for our lives. The other day, God encouraged me to have His presence be my true north, not what others say. He said, “Value My presence more than anything else!”

God wants to be the One who guides and directs us with His truth, which is often different from what the world says. He wants us to listen and obey His voice so He can set us on the course He has for us. Jesus wants us to make spending time in His presence a priority. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).

Sometimes I struggle thinking my ‘Daddy-Daughter time’ may be unproductive and that another use of my time may be a better expenditure of it. Holy Spirit gently corrected me saying my time in the river, with the Source of Life, is from which streams of living water flow. Even though I may not realize it, I need to be with Him, so that He infuses me with Himself for writing and mentoring. It’s my time with Jesus that prepares and anoints me for ministry. He explained how time alone with Him will prove to be as valuable a time as when I write at the computer.

This is the key: When we’re still and listen, then God’s heart and thoughts incubate our heart and thoughts. When a chicken sits on eggs, it’s for the purpose of hatching. When we make time to be in God’s presence, then we’re “keeping (ourselves)under conditions favorable for development.” Our best ‘work’ comes from a position of rest and intimacy with God.

After the Lord spoke these truths to me, I ended my time in His presence with this prayer. Lord, I do value Your presence. Help me to value it above anyone or anything else! May I go my own way as I follow what You reveal to me, while I spend time alone with You. May I not only follow my True North, but also be true to myself, to be who You created me to be.

My prayer for you, is that you value the Presence of God and follow Him as your True North.

“Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”

Abraham Lincoln
