The Set Up

“The will of God will never take you to where the grace of God will not protect you. To gain that which is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else.”

Bernadette Devlin

Prior to our move to Wichita, I sensed we were being sent there. We obeyed, without being clear on why or to whom we were being sent to. The Bible is full of Scripture that refers to the sovereignty of God and how He sent His servants to places with specific purposes. God tells Gideon in Judges 6:14, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” God orchestrated a famine on the land of Canaan, and sent His servant Joseph ahead of time to provide for the Israelites. (Psalm 105:16-17)

Even though we haven’t seen and fully tasted of the fruit God has for us in Wichita, He did use adverse circumstances to place us here. And I do believe there are promises awaiting us. Jennifer Kennedy Dean says, “What appeared to be a disaster and a tragedy drove God’s people to the place of God’s provision.”

What I have seen God do is go ahead of us and set things up. Twice I’ve experienced one new friend who led to another new friend and ministry. It’s as if my heavenly Daddy is placing the chess pieces in the right position on the board, so eventually there will be a checkmate. The new friendships represent the pieces on the chess board. God alone knows their giftings, for He created them. And He also knows who I need in my life to get me, where He wants me to go.

I am so grateful that I don’t need to fret over how I’m going to fulfill God’s destiny. I just need to believe and obey, one step at a time. It’s like the fairy tale of Hanzel and Gretel. All I need to do is follow the bread crumbs on the ground, that He’s left in my path. That I can do!

Isaiah 52:12b says, “For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” Knowing God has set things up and gone before us, and that He’s sent us to Wichita and will be our rear guard, gives me great peace.

“The strong hands of God twisted the crown of thorns into a crown of glory; and in such hands we are safe.”
