The Domino Effect

“For God to change the world, He’s not looking for a willing majority but rather one brave person to partner with Him.”

Kris Vallotton

Have you ever received a phrase that drops into your mind, seemingly out of nowhere, and boom, it has great impact? It’s as if you can tell the Holy Spirit’s authority or weight rested on that word. That happened a few weeks ago while a friend was praying. I heard the admonition from the Lord: “Be the first domino.” Immediately, I saw a bunch of dominoes lined up close together and when the first one dropped, the rest went down. I sensed God wanted me to be the first domino to fall, which influenced others to follow suit.

The definition of the domino effect is: “Repercussion of an act or event under which every associated or connected entity is affected to a more or less the same degree.” Just as when dominoes in near proximity are affected by the first domino that falls, so too our lives have an impact on those in our sphere of influence.

The domino effect is the way we create cultures. What we do or say, our responses to hurt and the attitudes we display are ways we shape the society that surrounds us. My desire is to create a culture of emotional wholeness so others fall more in love with Jesus. I’m passionate to share the Biblical principles I’ve learned through my emotional healing, in hopes that others experience emotional freedom, and in turn become the “first domino to fall” around those that are close to them. The ripple effect, as a result of one rock thrown into the water, can affect a whole pond. That’s how one person can make a difference and change the course of history.

It takes courage to be the first domino. The psalmist in Psalm 31:24a encourages us to “Be strong, and let your heart take courage.” Faith in who God says He is and who He created us to be, fans the flame of courage. Keeping our eyes focused on Him and not our inadequacies, gives us boldness to be the first domino to fall and start a chain reaction.

Whatever area of influence you have, be the first domino. Lead those who follow you back to Christ and watch how God uses you to alter His story.

“God wants to make history through us!”
