My Dad Promised Me

Norma Donovan

“God’s promises are like the stars; the darker the night the brighter they shine.”

David Nicholas

One of my favorite date nights with my husband is renting a Redbox movie while devouring a Zio’s Manhattan calzone. Recently we rented “Interstellar,” and towards the end of the movie the daughter, Murphy, tells her Dad, “Nobody believed me, but I knew you’d come back.” Cooper asked, “How?” She replied, “Because my Dad promised me.” From there, my thoughts leapt to my heavenly Daddy and His future return. But what really gave me peace was knowing what my Dad has promised, He will do.

Mediate on the following promises of God. Let the words soak deep within your heart.

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:3

“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12

“For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:1-2

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” Jer. 31:3

“My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14

I encourage you to take one Scripture each day and ponder the implications these promises have upon your life. Let the Word of God resonate loudly within your heart like a gong being struck by a mallet.

“You never pray with greater power than when you plead the promises of God.”

William J.C. White
