Best Christmas Gift Ever

“Christmas is the gift from heaven of God’s Son given for free; If Christmas isn’t found in your heart, you won’t find it under the tree.”

Charlotte Carpenter

With Christmas just eight days away, it’s easy to become consumed with finding the best gift ever for those we love. I believe the best gifts are those with an element of surprise, those not on our list, yet ones which display a great deal of thoughtfulness from the gift giver.

Followers of Jesus Christ, know that the best Christmas gift ever to receive is the One who Christmas is all about: baby Jesus. The gifts of repentance and forgiveness are ours to unwrap as a result of what the Christ child’s life, death and resurrection have obtained for us.     I John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Psalm 103 lists numerous presents God’s children may open any day of the year, no need to wait for Christmas. A few of them are: He forgives all our sins, heals all our diseases, redeems our lives from the pit, crowns us with love and compassion and satisfies our desires with good things.

The lyrics to the Christmas carol Drummer Boy, encourages us to honor the Christ child by bringing our finest gifts to lay before the King. I wonder what Jesus would deem as the best gift ever for Him to receive from us? Probably high up on His list would be our fully surrendered hearts and lives. Hearts that show God our love for Him through obedience and hearts full of faith, believing who He says He is and who He says you are. Those are presents I’m sure God would enjoy opening on December 25, or any day of the year.

As the countdown to Christmas becomes shorter, spend time thanking Jesus for all the year-round presents He daily gives to you. And then decide on the best gift ever that you could honor Jesus with this year.

“You can never truly enjoy Christmas until you can look up into the Father’s face and tell Him you have received His Christmas gift.”

John R. Rice

Relevant Reflections:

  1. Thank God for the daily presents Jesus gives to you.

  2. Decide on the best gift ever to give to the Christ child. Write it on a slip of paper, wrap it up and place it under the Christmas tree.
