All About Him

“Your life involves you but is not ultimately about you.”

Priscilla Shirer

I had a bulletin board in my fourth grade classroom called: All About Me. Each student had an opportunity to have their own bulletin board for a week highlighting who they were. Photos of their family and pets, what they liked to do and their favorite things were all displayed for their classmates to see. I wanted each student to feel special. It not only honored and valued them, it helped all of us to know them better.

Nowadays I hope I’m a walking bulletin board that features Jehovah, the one true God. I’d title the bulletin board, All About Him. I desire to honor God so He feels special. I want people to see who Jesus is through my life so they can get to know Him. I wish to highlight the grand things He’s done in my life so they can recognize Him in their own lives. What are some of God’s character traits and how can we best display them?

God is COMPASSIONATE. He cares about our struggles and feels deeply for those who are hurting. “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” (Psalm 103:13) How can we show compassion toward those who are hurting?

God is PATIENT and LONG SUFFERING. It seems God’s patience never wears thin. He never tires of waiting for people to repent from running their own lives and submitting to His Lordship. He desires for none to perish. (II Peter 3:9) How can we display our patience towards drivers on the road or to our loved ones who need help?

God is MERCIFUL. This is one character trait I am especially grateful for. God gives me mercy when I don’t deserve it. He forgives my sin and remembers it no more. It’s as if all my sins listed on my life’s chalkboard have been erased and I’m left with a clean slate. “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12) How can we demonstrate mercy toward those who have offended us?

Stormie Omartian says, “There is no neutral position in the Lord. You are either becoming more like Christ every day or you’re becoming less like Him.” As I live submitted to the Lordship of Christ and my life revolves around God, then hopefully people will see glimpses of Him through me. I trust people will get to know God when my life displays it’s all about Him.

“Let your life choices tell others of your wonderful God as you walk through life worshiping Him.”

Elizabeth George

Relevant Reflections:

1. In what ways can your life illustrate it’s ALL ABOUT HIM?

2. How can you show Jesus is compassionate, patient and merciful, rather than just tell people He’s that way?

3. What characteristics of God does your life display so others can know Him?
